Default Insomnia, art competitions and the universe

Been one my whole life (an insomniac, that is), really, so I shouldn't complain. Am dog tired, and there's hardly anyone online. Yay for boredom.

I like the night time though.

No-one around, no-one hassling, or calling me...

No noise.

Used to be that this sort of chilling out was more restful than actually sleeping, because my sleep is restless at the best of times.

Avoiding taking the xanax too, because my short term memory is fucked enough. 21 with the inner organs of a 90 year old, I swear.

Anyway, I've got this art competition coming up, theme is 'Life is a Hero's Journey' - want to see my entry? I don't really care if people don't like it. I'm just bored and awake and tired so it gives me something to do... It's bound to be the most controversial item at the competition though. I've seen what gets entered in previous years, all quite tame.

I think drug addiction is a hero's journey, hence, what I made.

I know this post was made at the beginning of the month, but wanted to let you know of the results from teh competition.

I entered a piece in art (as seen above) - not to win, but for the shock factor, because I know what this group of people thinks about me being a junkie.

I also entered some writing, which is a lot more personal, and I would have like to win that, because my writing means a lot to me.

Awards night came along, the day my ban was over - I can THIRD PRIZE for my junkie art ball, and FIRST PRIZE for my writing. Different judges for each department (art and writing), so they didn't know I'd won twice until the end. I was so stoked - embarrassed, but stoked. Other people were hating on my for 'oh-my-god-she-won-two-prizes' but fuck them. Their jealousy is NOT my problem. I deserved to win.

Anyway, since it's been so long since I posted what my art entry was going to be, I thought I may as well present the awards I received

I won like $140 worth of gift cards, so bought Scrubs seasons 1, 2 and 3, plus the first season of The L Word and general other junk (no, not the GOOD kind ) I needed.

I was very happy

Is your insomnia natural or from chemical use? Xanax works wonders for sleep, and fast at that but benzos, especially at higher than my prescribed doses fucks my short term memory up as well, I hear ya brother

nice artwork and congratulations!

Insomnia seems real common around here... I think I have posted every hour of the day and
night. I fall asleep around midnight for a couple hours and that's it, I am wide awake.
I work until 3am, 4am... I can't believe people who just sleep like eight hours or nine or ten or whatever
And then jump up in the morning all ready to go. I mean that is disgusting behavior if you ask me.
I may be crazy but at least I don't sleep all night like a fucking log. I can't tell you how many times I look
out my kitchen window at the studio I have rented out and this guy, an history teacher, lights are out and
he is sleeping away... I figure for the eight or so hours this guy sleeps I put in about four and I still do
way more stuff than he does.
I remember when I was a little kid, I couldn't sleep and I would be staring at that fucking plaster ceiling
all goddamn night and sometimes I would get up and my mom would be like mortified that my dad might
see me and then his big head would come into view all scowling and shit and he'd be all pissed off at me
and talking shit to me, bellowing away like a sore loser... And all because I was supposed to be asleep...
fuck sleep.

Thumbs down Re: Insomnia, art competitions and the universe

Thanks for the feedback on my art, guys. I must admit, it wasn't all negative (?yet), and it made a nice change from the crap I was getting from people for entering it.

Here's what the woman who judged the art section had to say about it;

"This piece is confronting not only in the concept and acknowledgment of human failings, but also in the choice of imagery. The use of syringes, a very taboo symbol in this society, to form the basic structure of the Fit Ball is both aesthetically effective and socially daring. The fact that it hangs from the ceiling and shines. leaves no doubt (in my mind) to it's reference to the disco ball. To me this seductive icon brings up connotations of all that is superficial and trashy in western society, making relevant references between the image and the text."

This is just what the judge said, so please don't shoot the messenger. I don't necessarily agree with all that she said, or interpreted, but art is just that; interpretation. I thought it was, however, an interesting way of summing up what my artwork was 'about'

I definitely need to do some more Insomnia Art - WarmCyanide, I'll let you know when I've done some, just to let you know
