My birthday present to myself/grief present

As a birthday present to myself and to help with the pain of my dearest Nika dying the other night i went out and got me 2 new beautiful hamsters. I only meant to get one but these two girls i was told had been living together for a while and were friends and i just couldn't brake them up, how could i do that ya know? They are buddies.

I named the black/Mink and white one Willow after one of my very first rats i had 6 years ago who's been long gone and the fawn (orange-ish) and white one i named star.

OMG they are so sweet and they don't bite. Some hamsters like to bite but these two are pretty young and have been handled.

I've had two other hamsters- Starbuck and Buster but they died a long while ago and i miss having a couple hamsters.

Are those Syrian hamsters?
They usually are better tempered than the russian dwarfs and not so sure on the chinese hamsters.

What is ROBOROSKIS?

Dirtdog, it would be so cool if we lived closer we could open the best darn pet shop. I mean a really good humane one, one that doesn't sell feeder rats and such and the animals aren't kept in nasty conditions but big play area's. I know your dad wants to open one up with you but if we lived closer we could so do it. Wouldn't that be fun?

oh and yea, they are Syrian hamsters. I don't care for Drawf hamsters so much, they can be little nasty bitters and they don't have as much personality. They did have some though at the pet store, but i got these two darling sisters.

willow and star are super cute!
in fact i had checked out your other thread with your photography - not only are your pictures really great - the critters are sooooo damn adorable.
i really loved the "babies".

my hubby and i have had lots and lots of animal companions. lots of rodents, and i agree that the russian dwarf hamsters are mostly little bitey jerks, but they are so damn cute!

have you ever had a bald rat GoR? i had a friend once who bred them along with regular rats, and they had by far the sweetest temperment of all her rodents, and they seemed to be smarter also.

and i'm so sorry about your little Nika. i'm sure she had a wonderfully happy life though and it makes me happy to know that you've adopted two more cute little fuzzies to give wonderfully happy lives to as well.
our last rat, winston, died a few years ago. he had a long and happy life though - lived to the age of 4 though which is pretty long for a rat.

OMG, i had a rat named Winston. Sadly he died about 6 months ago.

I have never had a hairless rat but i do love them and they do have wonderful temperments. I have had double Rex's which are curly haired rats who both parents are rex's and the double gene makes them lose their hair and they are adorable. Through their lives they lose their hair and it grows back and than it falls out again.

My friend in NYC has hairless and she just loves them. Someday I'm gonna get me a pair of hairless' rat.

It would be so awesome to open up a pet shop.
Roboroski hamsters were recently discovered in the 1980s. They are a little bigger than a quarter, have the characterisitc white eyebrows. So freaking cute. I know a breeder close by but they are very difficult to breed. Petsmart claims to have them but I doubt they are purebred.
Fuck petsmart anyways.
Thats where I got Wallace at. He was left to die in the back. Poor thing. Cus he couldnt stop sneezing. Gave him oranges and he was fine after that. Imagine what a little TLC does to a critter.
