I have some rat friends in Australia and
I think I've been told they don't get hammies down there. They probably
just aren'tr native.

Yup, in California Ferrets and Gerbils
are illegal to have. It sucks. But, people have them as pets anyway and
PetCo sells things for ferrets.
I've heard two reasons why they are illegal in California, 1) they eat native plant life and the Government fears if someone were to release them into the wild for whatever reasons they would destroy California's native plants which is kinda stupid if ya think about it. It would take a lot of Ferrets to destroy all of or a little of Cals native plants and the second thing I've heard is fear they'll destroy crops for the same reasons; if someone were to release them in the wild which is equally stupid. I looked it up on line and those are the two reasons i found. I know there are Ferret groups on line that started a petition a few years ago to reverse this law but i never heard the outcome. It must not have worked because they are still illegal. I also heard Arnold Swartzenegger (Sp) signed another bill or something to keep them illegal a year or so ago, think i read that somewhere as well.. Actually Arnold's kids have pet rats, pretty cool. Anyway... that's what I've read and it's pretty lame. It would take a shit load of Ferrets and Gerbils to destroy California's native plants and crops ya know. I knew someone who had Gerbils here in California but she died last year of a heart attack and I'm not sure what happened to her pet Gerbils. I'd love to have a couple Ferrets but my Grandma would never let me have them. I also want some bunnies. Someday I'll have them, just not while I live with grams, or i should say while I'm under her roof. GOR

my hampster got caught in one of his toys once, while i was away at lalapalozza concert
when i got home, i saw his foot stuck (unattached) he chewed it off. after that i called him studdy, and when he walked you could hear his one leg (the bone) tap on the bottom of his tank. poor thing.

Sadly I've had a problem with my older
males attacking babies threw the bars on the cage so i have a few
stumpies. I can't get mad at the boys because they're just being boys
and they are animals before they are pets and they are just doing what
animals do. But now I build a border around any cage that has babies in
it to stop that. But my girl 'Nubby' was born without front legs, it
was a fluke but she is so amazing and can do anything a 4 legged rat
can do and she's actually rather famous around the world from America
to Europe to Australia. She's also the mascot of one of the most
popular rat groups on line. She's the only 2 legged rat in the world
who has survived that we all know of. She's so special and one of the
loves of my life.
It's amazing what survivors rodents are, they are just amazing animals and can adapt to anything. GOR

Are Hamsters like Quinea Pigs? From photos, they don't really look like it. They are cute though!
Since Australia is such a quarantined island, with fuck all nasty poking around, they are very strict about what they let into the country. I, personally don't see the problem with hamsters, but shit, it's our government and good ol' smelly John Howard, so who the fuck really knows? P.S - I do realise this post is very late, I had a while there where I didn't have too much access to the internet. I'll also apologise in advance. I'm fully loaded with xanax, and it's not stopping anytime soon. I'm trying my hardest to type something, anything that makes sense. I just need to go to bed. It's 3:16am over here. Woo! I'll take a few more xannies than hit they sack. Typing is difficult when you have benzo double vision lol It's awesome to hear that, not only were you birthday rats doing so well, but that you got any ever super-duper-stellar special one. (we both know that they are all special though, don't we? I love all animals, and have pet mice. I want a ferret but they are illegal in my state.... so are cute fluffy bunnies! ![]() I hope your day was stellar, GoR - I would definitely love to chat/post/talk some more, if that doesn't come across too freaky and stalkarish ![]() Take care of yourself! P.S - I almost forgot to answer dirtdog's questions - we can have the usual animals, cats, dogs, fish, ponies, horses, birds etc (we have some of the most beautiful exotic birds). You can get reptile licenses, which means you can keep snakes, lizards, etc, as pets, as long as you set their environment up properly. I'd love a snake or ten (
) but am not in the position to persue that right now. A lot of animals
we can't go out and hunt down as pets, but injured ones often find
their way into care, since they most likely won't be able to go back
into the wild. We have some amazing animals in Australia, and a lot of
them make such beautiful, unique pets ![]() Quote:

your avatar is from an old animated film right? I sort of remember an adult themed film, kind of sci-fi'ish that the avtaar reminds me of. write here or PM me the name of it, the show or movie that it's from, that avatar looks so familiar to me for some reason. |

I get that comment from everyone I know
who is of American nationality. The sad part is, not them saying it,
not hearing it a million times, but STILL finding it funny everytime I
hear/read it.\\ That's was a good call - first one of the board since
I've been coming - medal deserving, much
